Philosophy for Children Project – P4C
The research report into the effects of P4C has now been completed and is available on the website of the Education Endowment Foundation.
The address for the report is:https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/projects/philosophy-for-children/
In summary the report claims that P4C improved pupils’ progress progress in maths and reading by an average of two months. The more disadvantaged pupils participating in the EEF trial saw their reading skills improve by four months, their maths results by three months and their writing ability by two months. Feedback from teachers throughout the trial suggests that Philosophy for Children had a beneficial impact on wider outcomes such as confidence, patience and self-esteem. There was not significant effect on CAT scores.
Thank you very much for taking part in the project and particularly for taking the time and trouble to do all the testing and sharing of information.
SAPERE has learned a lot from the project and has a clear direction further development of P4C in schools
